This handcrafted 58 cm rainstick produces a precise, delicate and steady rain sound for at least 8 minutes, particularly suited to personal listening or two people in a quiet environment. Its zebrano finish in engineered natural wood veneer features a graphic pattern that emphasises the instrument’s vertical form. Each piece is handmade in Montpellier with the level of finish associated with fine cabinetmaking.
8 Minutes rain pillar audio sample
To fully enjoy the sound sample, we recommend listening with headphones or earphones. The 8-minute Rain Pillar favours duration and subtlety rather than sheer volume.
Its 58 cm format allows the internal movement to continue for at least 8 minutes, with a succession of small impacts gradually building the overall rain sound.
In a quiet room, this texture becomes particularly interesting to follow: the rhythm changes, some passages feel denser while others become more open, yet the overall flow remains continuous.
This model is primarily intended for one person or a pair.
A very small group can listen together provided the environment is genuinely quiet.
For larger group use or spaces with more background noise, the larger Rain Pillar models will generally be more suitable.
The zebrano finish particularly highlights the veneer work.
Its pronounced pattern naturally follows the long, vertical shape of the Rain Pillar and gives it a very different personality from finishes with a more uniform appearance.
The pattern becomes part of the visual identity of the instrument without affecting its acoustic design.
The finish is made from engineered natural wood veneer. Thin sheets of wood are prepared, assembled and then cut again to reveal the intended pattern.
This technique provides greater control over the design while retaining the small variations inherent to real wood. Two instruments with the same finish will therefore not necessarily be perfectly identical.
The shape of a Rain Pillar may appear simple. That simplicity is precisely what makes the quality of the finishing work so important.
The joints, consistency of the surfaces, integration of the cork and veneer work all contribute directly to how the object is perceived.
The instrument is made in our Montpellier workshop by a cabinetmaker and art-object restorer, with particular attention given to both construction and finishing.
The cork is produced and processed in France. The wooden surface receives a natural varnish made in the workshop, protecting the instrument while leaving the veneer work fully visible.
The AB08 Zebrano therefore clearly expresses its dual nature: a musical instrument and a handcrafted object, designed to be listened to as well as looked at.
