Instruments & Sounds
What is the difference between a rainstick and a rain column?
The rainstick, a small-diameter instrument held in the hands, produces a short rainfall sound and must be turned regularly.
The rain column, larger and designed to be placed on the floor, delivers a long, soothing, and consistent rainfall sound, particularly suitable for relaxation, sound meditation, yoga, and well-being practices.
What sounds does a handcrafted rainstick produce?
It faithfully reproduces the natural sound of rainfall thanks to a precise internal architecture. The sound is smooth, consistent, and relaxing. Each instrument has a unique tone.
How long does the rainfall sound last?
Depending on the model, the rainfall lasts between 5 and 45 minutes.
What are the dimensions of a rainstick or rain column?
Our models range from 48 cm to 108 cm. The larger the instrument, the longer the rainfall sound.
Craftsmanship & Materials
What materials are used to make a rainstick?
We use genuine wood veneer, which is more ecological and resistant than solid wood. Assemblies are made with bio-based glues, and finishes with beeswax and natural vegetable oils, ensuring excellent acoustic stability and durability. Finally, a precise blend of natural seeds and silica beads is used to reproduce the authentic sound of rain.
Where are the rainsticks made?
All our instruments are handcrafted in France, in the heart of Montpellier, in our own workshop.
Is the rainstick eco-friendly?
Yes. Each instrument is crafted with natural and responsible materials:
-
Wood veneer that uses less material than solid wood
-
Natural finishes with beeswax and vegetable oils
-
Fully recyclable design: 100% recyclable and biodegradable
Is your manufacturing process eco-responsible?
Yes. We follow a global eco-responsibility approach that includes:
-
French artisanal craftsmanship in our own workshop
-
Local sourcing: wood and materials from France, with trusted regional partners
-
Short supply chains ensuring traceability and quality
-
Durability: instruments designed to last, limiting overconsumption
-
Responsible processes: reducing waste and reusing natural resources
-
CSR commitment: production aligned with sustainable development principles
Why are your rainsticks more affordable than others?
As part of our CSR commitment, we chose not to use solid wood. After months of research and innovation, we opted for wood veneer — a solution that allows us to offer handcrafted instruments at an accessible price, while providing greater strength, enhanced durability, and exceptional acoustic quality.
Use & Care
Is a rainstick a musical instrument or a decorative object?
It is both a relaxation and healing instrument and a unique decorative piece.
Is the rainstick suitable for children?
Yes, absolutely. While designed for adults and sound practices, it also fascinates children, who can safely handle it gently to enjoy the sound of falling rain.
Is the rainstick easy to use?
Yes. Simply place it on the floor and turn it slowly to enjoy a calming rainfall sound.
In what contexts can a rainstick be used?
For relaxation, meditation, yoga, music therapy, energy healing, sophrology, to help with sleep, or simply as a sound design object for decoration.
How should I maintain a handcrafted rainstick?
A simple dusting is enough. You can apply a thin layer of beeswax or vegetable oil once a year to nourish the wood.
Is a rainstick fragile?
Our instruments are designed to be durable and flexible. A Mickaël Amant rainstick can be used for many years under normal indoor conditions. However, as it is made from natural materials, it should be kept away from significant temperature changes.
